Help keep pores from becoming clogged
Tretinoin changes how cells in the lining of a follicle stick together and shed. This helps reduce the small blockages that can develop into acne lesions. The practical goal is to manage ongoing breakouts as part of a routine suited to your skin, rather than treating each visible spot in isolation.
Address selected signs of sun damage
Controlled studies of topical tretinoin have found improvements in fine wrinkling, roughness and uneven pigmentation in sun-damaged skin. These are gradual changes in appearance and texture. Sun protection remains part of care, and tretinoin does not remove every type of wrinkle, reverse all sun damage or replace an assessment of a changing skin lesion.
Build a routine your skin can tolerate
Bring your cleansers, exfoliants, acne medicines and other active skincare products to the review. Dryness, redness, peeling and stinging can occur, so ask how your moisturizer and sun protection should fit with the prescribed cream. Tell your clinician about eczema, significant irritation or pregnancy plans before treatment, and contact the care team if irritation becomes severe.
