Lower triglycerides
Triglycerides are the fat your blood carries between meals, and a high level is a risk of its own, for the pancreas as much as the heart. Prescription omega-3-acid ethyl esters are approved, alongside diet, to lower triglycerides in adults whose levels are severely elevated, and the trials behind the label show substantial reductions from baseline.
Works with your statin
A statin lowers LDL well but often leaves triglycerides high. In an 8-week randomized trial in adults whose triglycerides stayed elevated on a statin, adding prescription omega-3 lowered them further than the statin alone, which is why the two are commonly prescribed together.
Prescription strength, a consistent dose
Each 1g capsule contains a standardized amount of EPA and DHA as ethyl esters, the same form the clinical trials used. Over-the-counter fish oil varies by brand and bottle; a prescription product gives your provider a known dose to work with and to recheck against.
How it works
EPA and DHA reduce the liver's production of triglyceride-rich particles and speed their clearance from the blood. The ethyl-ester form concentrates both fatty acids so a meaningful amount fits in a capsule, and the effect shows on the follow-up lipid panel.
Research and product information
The product is FDA-approved as an adjunct to diet for severe hypertriglyceridemia; it contains EPA plus DHA and differs from the purified EPA products studied for cardiovascular events, and because LDL can rise, the full lipid panel is rechecked.
