A three-amino-acid antioxidant
Glutathione consists of glutamate, cysteine and glycine. Cells use it in reactions that help manage oxidative stress, the imbalance that can occur between reactive molecules and the body's defenses. Researchers have studied whether giving glutathione changes its levels in different parts of the body. A change in an antioxidant measure is one piece of that research.
Understand the route and the ingredients
IAM lists glutathione as an injection, a troche paired with NAD+, and a nasal gel combining glutathione, GHK-Cu and Dihexa. These are distinct preparations with different active ingredients. The intranasal glutathione trial used a solution in people with Parkinson's disease. Review the complete ingredient list with your provider when discussing a preparation.
Quality and handling belong in the conversation
For an injectable, ask the dispensing pharmacy about the exact route, storage and preparation instructions. FDA has warned that dietary supplement grade glutathione is unsuitable for injectable drugs because contaminants can cause serious reactions. Fever, shaking chills, dizziness or feeling acutely unwell after an injection need prompt medical attention; breathing difficulty or fainting requires urgent care.
Research and product information
Studies of swallowed glutathione and intranasal solution do not establish wellness benefits for these compounded combinations. The nasal gel includes Dihexa, whose 2013 foundational study has a journal Notice of Concern; its 2014 mechanism paper was retracted in 2025. Combination-specific benefits and safety are not established.
